When fraud is detected here are some corrective actions we advise operators to take:

Disconnect and block fraudulent channels used to carry SMS Bypass fraud

• Disconnect fraudulent subscriptions (on-net).
• Advise Other local operators (OLO’s) and International Operators (OIO’s) about fraudulent subscriptions identified, request disconnection.
• Block spoofed CLI’s
• Block Suspicious GT in SMS Firewall

Address issue upstream at Origin

• Contact large Prime Origins (e.g., Facebook) and negotiate termination agreement based on findings.
• Contact SMS Aggregators (e.g., SMS Bulk) and negotiate termination agreement based on findings (or consider litigation).

Address issue within operator Protection Systems

• Refine profile in SMS firewall AI controls based on detected cases (for all cases)
• Refine alert thresholds in FMS based on detected cases (for all cases)
